| READY FOR LAUNCH -- Hughes Space and Communications Company engineers prepare the SUPERBIRD-4 satellite for shipment to the Guiana Space Center in South America for a February 2000 launch. Built for Space Communications Corporation of Tokyo, the HS 601HP will provide telecommunications services throughout Japan and the Asia-Pacific region. SUPERBIRD-4 will carry 23 Ku-band transponders, six Ka-band transponders, as well as a steerable Ku-band spot beam to increase service where needed. |
