KOUROU, French Guiana, Nov. 06, 2000 -- PAS-1R, the Boeing 702 satellite that will bring increased satellite communications capacity to four continents, undergoes final review prior to shipping to French Guiana for launch in mid-November aboard an Ariane 5 rocket. With a total of 72 transponders, 36 in Ku- and 36 in C-band, PAS-1R will deliver video, data and Internet services to the Americas, Europe and Africa. The satellite carries twice the capacity of PAS-1, the satellite it is set to replace. PAS-1R will expand satellite communications into the next decade.
