KOUROU, French Guiana, Nov. 06, 2000 -- In Oct. 1997, PanAmSat Corporation ordered PAS-1R, the powerful Boeing 702 satellite that will have 14.3 kW of power at the end of its 15 years of operational life. PAS-1R, built by Boeing Satellite Systems, will be the second Boeing 702 satellite to launch since the model was introduced by Hughes in 1995. With a total of 72 transponders, 36 in Ku- and 36 in C-band, PAS-1R will deliver video, data and Internet services to four continents when it is launched on an Ariane 5 rocket in 2000.
