Drawing illustrates how three geostationary satellites can provide a global communications network with uninterrupted, 24-hour television and telephone service. Each satellite, at 22,300 miles altitude, can "see" one third of the globe. Each satellite's orbital speed is synchronized with the Earth's rotation, keeping it stationary over one spot on the ground.
