Checkout, Assembly and Payload Processing Services at Kennedy Space Center

Mark Jager is the program manager for the Checkout, Assembly and Payload Processing Services contract, known as CAPPS, at NASA's Kennedy Space Center site. Mark and his team are responsible for program execution, maintaining effective customer relations, support for the final assembly of various payloads including the International Space Station elements, and integration testing of these payloads to the Space Shuttle and Expendable Launch Vehicles (ELV).

Mark joined McDonnell Douglas at the Kennedy Space Center in 1984, and began his career as a SpaceLab GSE engineer, flight systems engineer, and lead electrical engineer. He also has work experience as the Space Station Avionics Project manager, Avionics and GSE manager, and Launch Support IPT lead. In 2000, Mark became the Boeing KSC International Space Station chief engineer, and one year later became Boeing KSC director of Integration Management, where he worked on the CAPPS proposal and was a technical volume manager.

Mark's previous work includes assignments in avionics and systems engineering, as well as project management and integration. During these assignments, he was involved in the planning and development work for the Space Station Processing Facility at KSC, working with the International Space Station elements design and manufacturing teams to ensure the elements could be processed at KSC safely and efficiently, and assisting with preparation of the facilities and infrastructure to process the payloads coming from the customer.

In 2000, Mark received the NASA Public Service Medal, an award that recognizes exceptional contributions to the mission of NASA.

Mark was born in Syracuse, N. Y., where he lived until he was 10 years old. He grew up in New Smyrna, Fla., and now lives in the Oviedo, Fla., area with his wife, Roxane, and two sons Garrett and Matthew.

Mark received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Florida in 1984.

Though most of Mark's free-time activities revolve around his family, he enjoys playing golf whenever he gets the chance.
