Ground-based Midcourse Defense
Nov. 17, 1999 -- A crane lifts the canister holding the engineering model inert missile to lower it into the Ground-based Midcourse Defense test silo simulator at the Development and Integration Laboratory at The Boeing Company in Huntsville, Ala. The test silo simulator is neither capable of actually launching a missile nor is it connected to any U.S. command and control network. The lab provides for developmental vehicle systems integration and also serves as an inert training environment.
