Ninth Boeing Ground-based Midcourse Defense Interceptor Emplaced

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 21, 2005 -- The Boeing Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) team uses a special crane to lift and lower the ninth GMD ground-based interceptor into its underground silo at the Fort Greely, Alaska GMD Site. GMD is the nation's first line of defense against an enemy ballistic missile attack. There currently are seven interceptors in silos at Fort Greely and two interceptors at the GMD Site at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.
