Boeing Awarded $10 Million For Re-engine Work

WICHITA, Kan., Jan. 07, 1997 -- The U.S. Air Force has awarded The Boeing Company a $10 million contract to re-engine 10 KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft for foreign military sales.

The re-engine program involves replacing the current J57 engines with quieter, more fuel-efficient CFM56 engines, retrofitting struts and nacelles to accommodate the new engines, and making other system modifications.

This award brings the total number of KC-135 Stratotankers to be re-engined to 424 since Boeing began the program in 1982. Boeing has delivered 411 re-engined KC-135s over the last 15 years.

Work will be performed by the Product Support Division in Wichita. The contract will run through April 1998.
