McDonnell Douglas Awarded Bomber Training Contract

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 14, 1996 -- McDonnell Douglas was recently awarded a contract by the U.S. Air Force to provide training for B-1B and B-52H bomber crews.

With the new contract, McDonnell Douglas is providing the Air Force with training for almost all of its bomber and fighter aircraft, including the F-15C, F-15E, F-16 and F-117. It also provides training support for the service's C-17 and T-1A aircraft.

Under the $15.5 million contract with Air Combat Command, McDonnell Douglas will provide instructors and courseware development teams to Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, to support B-1B aircrew training, and to Barksdale Air Force Base, La., to support B-52H aircrew training.

The contract, awarded Sept. 24, will run from October 1996 through September 2001. It entails basing 22 training support personnel at Dyess and 21 at Barksdale.

The instructor teams at these bases will provide all classroom and simulation training, as well as monitor computer-based training. The courseware development teams will develop, update and maintain the materials and manuals associated with these three aspects of training.

McDonnell Douglas also provides the U.S. Navy with the T-45 Training System and the U.S. Army with the AH-64 helicopter training system.

Aircraft operations and maintenance training and training systems are provided by the Aerospace Support operation of McDonnell Douglas Aerospace, the corporation's military aircraft and space systems business.
