Boeing Welliver Faculty Fellowship Program
Boeing Welliver Faculty Fellowship Program (8 Weeks)
The program provides an opportunity for each faculty member to work with a mentor to "customize" participation in the program and align with personal objectives prior to the eight week program.
Week 1: Kick-Off (St. Louis, Missouri - Boeing leadership Center)
Weeks 2-7: Location and assignment customized to Boeing and professor objectives
Week 8: Final week (St. Louis, Missouri - Boeing leadership Center)
Week 1: Kick-Off
- Provide an introduction and overview of The Boeing Company
- Presentations by Boeing leaders
- Tours of St. Louis Boeing facilities
- Welcome dinner event with Boeing leaders and others
- Networking with other Faculty Fellows
Week 2-7: Customized Program
- Participants report to hosting organization at pre-assigned locations. The participants will gain knowledge in the following areas
- The meaning of a "customer driven" environment
- The business realities in a global economy of the practice of engineering, supply chain management, finance, or other areas of interest
- The importance of focusing on processes, process improvement and efficient tools
- The process of system integration
- The integrated relationship between manufacturing, engineering, and business
- The importance of teams
Throughout this six-week period, the participants will maintain contact with each other enabling them to compare their observations and their learning experiences, as well as to begin the draft of a joint group report to be presented during the final week. Throughout the program, the faculty is expected to conform to the work schedules of the Company sites where they are assigned.
Week 8: Final Week
- Introduction by Boeing leaders
- Collaboration and presentations by professors to Boeing Leadership
- Final group and individual reports
- Graduation celebration dinner with Boeing leaders and others
Deliverables
At the end of the program, faculty will be asked to provide two reports:
- Group report: Single collaborative report and presentation on a special topic provided by Boeing
- Individual report: A report that contains observations about Boeing with possible suggestions for improvement and a personal plan to initiate activities aimed at enhancing their education programs. The faculty is encouraged to take their learning and plans back to their campuses and share them with Deans and peers.
Compensation:
Participants will enter into a service agreement that, based on full participation, will provide:
- $16,500 stipend
- A predetermined
- travel and relocation allowance and
- Per diem based on their assigned locations.
Selected applicants are responsible for arranging in advance:
- International applicants must be able to obtain a J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa for training purposes. Boeing will assist in the application process to obtain the appropriate approval documents. - Transportation to/from the program and various assignments
- All hotel or living accommodatio ns for the program duration
