What is the Business Careers Foundation Program (BCFP) recruiting process?
BCFP recruiting is a three-step process. First, applicants must apply online through the Boeing Enterprise Staffing System (BESS) to the appropriate job posting. From this resume pool, candidates are selected and invited to participate in a first round interview on campus, over the phone, or at a Boeing facility. Finally, candidates are selected or invited for a second interview with a panel of senior managers on-site at a Boeing facility.
What are the BCFP regions?
The BCFP is located in the following regions:
- Southern California
- Seattle/Puget Sound area, Washington
- St. Louis, Missouri
- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
- Mesa, Arizona (administered by Philadelphia)
Which Boeing business units will I be exposed to?
The BCFP strives to expose participants to many facets of The Boeing Company. Dependent upon which region the BCFP is in, participants may have the opportunity to work in multiple business units such as Integrated Defense Systems, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Phantom Works, and Shared Services Group.
Do I choose where I work?
Upon entering the program, the first rotation assignment is predetermined by the BCFP program manager. All subsequent rotations are coordinated with the program manager based on program requirements, business needs, the participant's preferences, and rotation availability.
What kind of work will I do as a BCFP participant?
The specific work statement varies from rotation to rotation. During the two-year development program, participants are exposed to six, four-month assignments that include many of the following core skill areas:
- Accounting
- Financial Planning
- Contracts
- Estimating/Pricing
- Procurement Cost/Price Analysis
- Program Cost Management
- Supplier Management (Procurement)
- Integrated Scheduling
- Elective -- in a business area based on career interest and availability
Will I relocate during the program?
No; however, your daily commute may vary depending on the location of each rotation.
Are there opportunities for assignments in other regions?
During the second year of the program, participants are given the opportunity to apply for a rotation in another BCFP region. This opportunity is coordinated through program management. Eligibility is based on performance, career goals, and offsite rotation availability. This opportunity is dictated by the current business environment and availability of offsite locations may vary during each rotation cycle. Compensation for such assignments is provided based on Boeing company policy.
Do I receive the same benefits as other Boeing employees?
As a participant in the BCFP you are considered a full-time, salaried employee of The Boeing Company. Thus, you are eligible to receive the benefits offered by Boeing.
How is performance in the program evaluated?
Performance in the program is evaluated at two levels. The first is the rotation level, where the hosting manager assesses various aspects of the participant's performance in that rotation. The second level is the program level, where the BCFP program manager reviews your performance in the three rotations over the year and your development and progress within the program on an annual basis.
Does Boeing support continuing education?
Boeing offers the Learning Together Program, in which Boeing will pay for tuition and many related expenses, including application fees, entrance exams, books and graduate fees. Eligibility is based on an employee's enrollment in accredited colleges, universities or trade schools. Employees who complete degrees are eligible for Boeing stock awards.
Will I have any interaction with senior management?
Within the BCFP, participants are paired with a mentor at the senior manager or executive level. The purpose of this mentorship is to build a strong relationship between program participants and a Boeing leader to facilitate the establishment of short- and long-range career goals. In addition, roundtable discussions with executives are scheduled on a regular basis.
How does the BCFP support development?
To develop professional growth, two Enterprise seminars are offered to BCFP to help them develop and improve their competencies and skills. Training and development includes activities such as book reviews, seminars, and roundtable discussions with executives. Participants are also encouraged to supplement their training by attending courses through company-offered programs, local universities, and other seminars designed to enhance both technical and leadership skills and competencies.
What happens when I complete the program?
Upon completion of the program, participants coordinate with program management to transition to a permanent position consistent with both their career interests and the needs of The Boeing Company.
What are my responsibilities to the program?
Each BCFP is required to participate on a BCFP team that involves: coordinating special events, maintaining the internal BCFP Web site, planning training events, or facilitating the mentor program.
Will I be working with other BCFP participants?
The rotational nature of the program does not warrant placing more than one participant in a single rotation at a time. While you likely will not work side by side with other BCFPs, the group regularly convenes for a monthly meeting. In addition, various social activities occur throughout the year.
