Variable Geometry Chevrons
At Boeing, we believe the best airplanes are seen, not heard.
With the steadfast pursuit of building the quietest, most environmentally friendly airplanes in the world, today's generation of Boeing jets are ten times quieter than their predecessors. Boeing is currently pursuing variable chevrons (saw-toothed-shaped devices at the engine exhaust streams) in reducing jet noise. Recently, further advancements have emerged using shape memory alloy materials in fabricating variable geometry chevrons. This results in jet noise reduction at takeoff without incurring a cruise thrust loss. Quieter engines are but one of many aircraft noise reduction technologies being advanced by Boeing. Join us as we make the sky quieter, one aircraft at a time.
