An international assignee (expatriate or expat) is an employee temporarily assigned outside of his or her home country and expected to return upon completion of the assignment. They can be from any country, of any citizenship. The majority of Boeing expatriates are from the United States, and they are assigned to work outside the U.S. for one year or longer. U.S. expatriates remain on U.S. payroll (HRMS) while on assignments outside the U.S., and they continue to receive U.S. benefits.
A locally hired international employee (local hire) is an employee who is paid as a local resident of the country in which he or she works. Local hires can be from any country, of any citizenship. Local hires are paid locally. They have local pay and benefits packages, usually quite different from country to country, but competitive within the local market.
