Having a Blast in Huntington Beach

June 05, 2013 in Community

There have been many rocket launches in Southern California, but on May 11 there were hundreds of them thanks to the Discovery Science Center of Santa Ana, Calif. and Boeing in Huntington Beach for sponsoring and hosting the annual Rocket Launch.

The community event promotes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) as kids and their families, build and launch rockets made of plastic soda bottles propelled by pressurized air and water.

Retired NASA Apollo astronaut Walter Cunningham was this year’s featured guest. Families got a chance to get photographs with the Apollo 7 astronaut who talked about his days in space and his mission that helped enable the momentous Apollo 11 mission that landed the first humans on the moon and returned them safely back to Earth.
