RAAF Base Williamtown is situated 30km north of Newcastle. It is the headquarters of the Air Combat Group, the Australian Defence Warfare Centre, and the RAAF's Surveillance and Control Group (SCG). It is home to the RAAF's F/A-18 Hornet fleet and will be the home of the new Wedgetail AEW&C aircraft from 2006.
