RAAF Hornet 20th Anniversary Paint Scheme

The commemorative paint scheme for the ‘Year of the Hornet’ anniversary aircraft is a fusion of two designs. The first was selected by Air Commodore Mark Binskin, Commander Air Combat Group, from submissions to an internal RAAF design competition. The second was developed by graphic designers from Boeing Australia.

Boeing Australia combined elements from the two designs and the Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Angus Houston, approved the final scheme.

The aircraft was painted by Boeing and RAAF personnel at the Aerospace Coatings facility at the Boeing Aerospace Support Centre, RAAF Base Amberley. It was then presented to Air Marshal Houston by Boeing Australia Managing Director, David Gray, at a ceremony at the Australian International Airshow on Tuesday, 15 March 2005
