McDonnell Douglas History C-17 Globemaster III (1991)
C-17 Globemaster III Based on the technology developed for the YC-15, the much larger C-17 Globemaster III made its first flight in 1991. The C-17 combined out-size cargo capability with short-field performance. It won the prestigious Collier Trophy for "the greatest achievement in aeronautics" for 1994.
