Launch & Satellite Systems truly
builds space capabilities from the ground up. From Rocketdyne
engines to the Delta and Sea Launch family of rockets to state-of-the-art
satellites, L&SS takes the rich heritage of five decades of leadership
in space and translates it into a new way of doing business.
Expendable Launch Systems, based in Huntington Beach, Calif.,
produces and launches the Delta expendable launch vehicles: Delta
II, Delta III and Delta IV. With a remarkable record of mission
success for NASA, Air Force and commercial customers, the L&SS
team offers a full range of launch services, including Sea Launch,
a unique international partnership to provide orbital placement
accuracy and low-cost performance by launching payloads from
a floating platform on the equator.
Boeing Satellite Systems, the world’s largest satellite manufacturer
based in El Segundo, Calif., serves the dynamic and evolving
needs of the commercial, government and military customer. With
nearly 40 percent of the world’s satellites now in commercial
service, the unit offers a range of satellites that connect the
world in an increasingly complex network and contribute significantly
to the security of the U.S. and its allies.
Rocketdyne Propulsion & Power, based in Canoga Park, Calif.,
for five decades has powered virtually every major U.S. space
program. In an example of the synergy that drives L&SS, the Boeing
Delta family of launch vehicles is powered by Rocketdyne engines.
The mighty RS-68 engine that lifts the Delta IV is the first
large liquid-fueled rocket engine certified for flight in the
U.S. in almost three decades.
