As 2004 nears an end, defense planners around the world are faced with difficult budget decisions. The global war on terrorism and domestic issues are exerting greater and greater pressure on budgets at the exact time military forces are adapting to new threats and requirements.
The past two years have driven home the lesson of needing a precise global strike capability, highly mobile and rapidly deployable forces, and the ability to securely share information between services and allies.
This issue of All Systems Go will look at some of the global Air Force and Army programs we are supporting today – programs that address the unique requirements and challenges of future Armed Forces. It also highlights two partnerships Boeing has embarked upon, a 10-year strategic alliance with IBM and the newly formed Network Centric Operations Industry Consortium or NCOIC.
The formation of the consortium is an extremely important step forward for industry and our customers. It allows us to work together to recommend standards ensuring future military systems are interoperable. Such standards will reduce the time and money required to bring future systems on line and put them in the hands of our ultimate customers – the men and women in uniform.
