WICHITA, Kan., Nov. 11, 1997 -- Boeing has been awarded a $64.8 million contract by the U.S. Air Force to manufacture re-engine kits for KC-135 and RC-135 aircraft. The contract is with the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center at Tinker Air Force Base.
The firm-fixed-price contract calls for Boeing to provide for fabrication and assembly of re-engine kits for four RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft and four KC-135 air refueling tanker aircraft. Two of the KC-135 kits are in support of a foreign military sale to Singapore.
The re-engine kits contract includes efforts associated with fabrication of new engine struts and nacelles, structural fittings, wiring harnesses and hardware necessary to replace the existing aircraft engines with quieter, more fuel efficient CFM-56 engines.
"We are pleased to continue supporting the Air Force in modernizing these important aircraft, and are proud of our performance on this long-running program," said Randy Eno, Boeing KC-135 programs manager.
Completion of the kits included in this award will bring the total number of KC-135 re-engine kits produced by Boeing to 441 since the program began in 1982. Work will be performed at the Boeing Product Support facilities in Wichita.
