CAPE MAY, NJ, Nov. 06, 2003 -- Recruits face the chow line at the Coast Guard's training center. As part of the rigors of their 17-hour day, recruits are required to eat breakfast in silence and always appear clean-shaven even if that means shaving twice or even three times a day.
