Marine in Iceland
KEFLAVIK, Iceland, Nov. 06, 2003 -- War games begin before dawn on the desolate lava fields outside Keflavik. Lance Corporal Benjamin Baumann, 19, of Thibodaux, Louisiana, advances with his Marine platoon, based at the nearby naval air station. The Keflavik base has been in operation since the battle for the North Atlantic during World War II. Training like this is sobering, says Baumann. It brings the whole world situation into reality.
