A Day in the Life of the United States Armed Forces

Return to News Release

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 06, 2003 -- Honolulu, Hawaii -- Long separations are a fact of life for Navy families. Mess Management Specialist 3rd Class Christopher Brumbaugh of the USS Crommelin says goodbye to his wife, Elaina, before his ship sets sail on a six-month deployment. I woke up the morning after he was deployed wishing the sun would go away, says Elaina, who referred to photographer Bruce Dale as the tear catcher. I was not ready to face the first of six months worth of mornings without my husband.
