Larry Dickenson is named to lead the Boeing Commercial Airplanes sales team as vice president of Sales. He reports to Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Scott Carson. Dickenson succeeds Carson, who was named president and CEO in September.

Singapore Airlines orders 20 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners with purchase rights for 20 additional airplanes. The airline originally announced the selection of and intent to purchase the 787-9 in June. The airplanes will be delivered from 2011 through 2013, providing growth as well as fleet renewal.

Boeing Business Jets celebrates its 10-year anniversary by launching the newest member of the BBJ family - the BBJ3. As announced at the National Business Aviation Association Convention and Exhibition in Orlando, Fla., the airplane is based on the new Next-Generation 737-900ER (Extended Range), and won two orders from undisclosed customers. Also at the NBAA, Boeing Business Jets announces it won seven orders for twin-aisle VIP airplanes. Undisclosed customers ordered one 787-8, three 787-9 and three 747-8 airplanes.

Boeing delivers the 10,000th Combat Survivor Evader Locator communications system to the U.S. joint services. The CSEL unit will be presented to the U.S. Air Force 753rd Electronics Systems Group in a ceremony at the manufacturing facility of Boeing subcontractor Senior Systems Technology, which assembles and tests the units.

The U.S. Air Force agrees to procure three additional Wideband Gapfiller Satellites from Boeing under a contract that could be worth up to $1.067 billion if all options are exercised. The Block II satellites will resemble three Block I satellites S&IS has already built, and will have a radio frequency bypass capability for airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms requiring ultrahigh bandwidth.

Boeing successfully transfers fuel for the first time from its KC-767 Tanker advanced boom to a simulated receiver on the ground. Through a series of tests at the Boeing Integrated Defense Systems facility in Wichita, Kan., boom operators onboard the aircraft use the aerial refueling systems to offload fuel from the new tanker to an aircraft receptacle on the ground. Fuel flow, delivery and surge pressure all are measured while the fuel is pumped to nearby trucks.

Boeing, Shanghai Airport (Group) Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Airlines Co., Ltd, break ground for a new maintenance, repair and overhaul facility that the three companies will manage as Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services based at Pudong International Airport in Shanghai. Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services will provide airplane modifications and maintenance, sale and repair of aviation equipment, and related engineering and technical services.

Boeing announces that Spectrolab, a wholly owned subsidiary, has produced its 2 millionth multi-junction, gallium-arsenide solar cell. Spectrolab, the industry-leading solar cell producer, pioneered this type of cell in 1983, perfecting the technology for production several years later.

Boeing Phantom Works says it soon will begin ground testing of its X-48B Blended Wing Body concept in preparation for flight testing early next year. The X-48B ground and flight testing will take place at NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base in California, where two high-fidelity, 21-foot wingspan prototypes have been delivered.

Boeing successfully launches a Delta IV rocket carrying a Defense Meteorological Satellite Program payload for the U.S. Air Force. The Delta IV Medium rocket lifts off from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. This mission will aid the military in planning and conducting operations worldwide.

Standard & Poor's increases the long-term debt ratings for Boeing and Boeing Capital by one level, to "A+" from "A," which triggers savings in excess of $10 million on Boeing's banking fees. The ratings service says its decision resulted from "improving profitability, aided by solid demand for commercial airplanes ... substantial cash flow, and expectations that management will continue to pursue a balanced capital allocation to achieve stronger credit protection measures." The November upgrade follows S&P's May 12 announcement that it boosted to "positive" from "neutral" its outlook on Boeing and Boeing Capital debt securities.

11/9: U.S. Air Force selects Boeing for CSAR program

FedEx Express, a unit of FedEx Corp., orders 15 Boeing 777 Freighters and takes options on an additional 15 of the airplanes. Deliveries to the Memphis, Tenn.-based freight carrier will begin in 2009. The 777F, the world's longest-range twin-engine freighter, is based on the 777-200LR Worldliner (Longer Range) passenger airplane.

Boeing starts using a moving assembly line for the first time to build the 777 jetliner. For now, the moving assembly line is used only during final assembly positions for the airplane, moving it at a steady pace of 1.6 inches per minute during production. Earlier this year, Boeing began work to transform its 777 assembly line into a Leaner and more efficient production system.

The U.S. Air Force selects Boeing's HH-47 helicopter as the winner of the Combat Search and Rescue program competition. Under the terms of an estimated $10 billion award, Boeing's Rotorcraft site will build 145 HH-47 Combat Search and Rescue helicopters for the U.S. Air Force.

Boeing and Air India celebrate the delivery of the first of 18 Next-Generation 737-800s to Air-India Express, a wholly owned subsidiary of Air India. The delivery also marks the first airplane delivered to Air India following the airline's December 2005 order for 68 Boeing jetliners, the largest commercial airplane order in India's civil aviation history.

Boeing and Lockheed Martin report they have completed the transaction combining their expendable launch vehicle businesses, forming the joint venture called United Launch Alliance, LLC. ULA will combine the production, engineering, test and launch operations associated with U.S. government launches of Boeing Delta and Lockheed Martin Atlas rockets. The proposed joint venture was first announced in May 2005.

Boeing says it recently demonstrated communication capabilities between its Transformational Satellite Communications laser communications terminal and BAE Systems' Airborne Lasercom Risk Reduction Terminal. The demonstration, presented to MILSATCOM Systems Wing officials and members of the TSAT user community, used several optical waveforms to route TSAT communication signals through the ALT Risk Reduction Terminal at data rates of up to 10 gigabits per second.

Boeing and Lufthansa report that the carrier has ordered 20 747-8 Intercontinental jetliners plus 20 purchase rights. Lufthansa is the first airline to place an order for the passenger version of the fuel-efficient airplane. Since its launch in November 2005, eight customers have ordered 73 747-8 Intercontinentals and freighters.

Boeing announces that Spectrolab, a wholly owned subsidiary, has achieved a new world record in terrestrial concentrator solar cell efficiency. Using concentrated sunlight, Spectrolab demonstrated the ability of a photovoltaic cell to convert 40.7 percent of received solar energy into electricity. The U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colo., verified the milestone.

Boeing says that U.S. Customs and Border Protection has validated Boeing supply chain security practices at the Tier 3 level, which affords the highest level of benefits available to U.S. importers under the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism program. The validation acknowledges that Boeing internal security practices meet C-TPAT criteria and that Boeing effectively engages other supply chain stakeholders to assess and enhance security and implement best practices recognized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Tier 3 status qualifies Boeing for the most streamlined Customs examination process for cargo imported through U.S. ports from international suppliers.

Boeing reports that under a U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory industry team, the Boeing Phantom Works Automated Aerial Refueling program successfully completed flight tests in August that demonstrated for the first time an unmanned air vehicle's ability to autonomously maintain a steady refueling station behind a tanker aircraft.

Boeing Australia Ltd. announces it has signed a contract to provide the Commonwealth of Australia its first Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicle capability under Joint Project 129. Boeing Australia, with partner Israel Aircraft Industries' MALAT Division, will deliver the I-View 250A TUAV and associated systems to the Australian Army, providing new airborne surveillance, reconnaissance and target acquisition capabilities.
