757 Biography
Tom Cogan
As the chief project engineer for the 787 program, Tom Cogan is responsible for the safety of the airplane -- a commitment he said he takes very seriously and remembers with every decision he makes on the program. He leads a cross-functional team with experts in design, manufacturing, business and Global Partners focused on the integration of the airplane's design and achievement of the performance targets.
Cogan began his Boeing career on the 757 program and served in a variety of functions, starting as an aerodynamics engineer when he joined the company in 1977 and eventually serving as chief project engineer in 2000.
"The creativity and determination of the Boeing people to find a way to solve challenges is endless and always impressive," said Cogan. "It is the people I work with and the amazing products we create together that make it easy to keep coming back into the office every day. No matter what challenges pop up on any given day, I know we have the right team in place to find the answers we need."
Looking forward, Cogan is focused on introducing the world to the all-new 787 Dreamliner.
"First flight will be very personally rewarding," said Cogan. "But even more than that, I can't wait for the passengers of the world to have their first 787 flights, so they can experience for themselves the big improvements and small touches we have included in this airplane just for them."
