Boeing sponsors Sept. 11 televised tribute

In tribute to the victims and heroes of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Boeing is a sponsor of "Concert for America," a two-hour musical and performing arts tribute at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

The prime-time special, which will feature first lady Laura Bush as honorary chairman, will air on NBC-TV the evening of Sept. 11. The concert will honor the victims and heroes of the terrorist attacks while celebrating the spirit of unity and determination that emerged in the wake of these events. It will be staged before a live audience in the Kennedy Center's Concert Hall on Sept. 9.

"This concert will serve as a great symbol of the spirit and pride that binds us together," said Boeing Chairman and CEO Phil Condit. The company also sponsored last year's "Concert for America" broadcast on PBS.

"It didn't take us long to decide that the concert's objectives—honoring the victims, their families and the heroes of the events of Sept. 11—fit Boeing well," said Anne Toulouse, vice president of brand management and advertising. "We couldn't think of a better way to honor the day."

The special will feature a range of musical performances. Among those scheduled to perform are singers Aretha Franklin, Gloria Estéfan, Enrique Iglesias, Al Green, Josh Groban, and Alan Jackson. The event also will include performances from the National Symphony Orchestra. Boeing sponsored the NSO's 15-city European tour this spring.

The event will air at 9 p.m. Eastern time.
