SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT BOEING FRONTIERS MAGAZINE
Q. What is "Frontiers Magazine?"
A. Boeing Frontiers is a monthly magazine committed to telling Boeing's global story and relaying news and information about the company's strategic transformation. It is a publication evolved from Boeing News newspaper which ceased publication in March, 2002. Communicators companywide will leverage the new magazine to provide employees, retirees and other stakeholders with in-depth, timely analysis and news about the company, its industries, customers and people. Our charter is to employ the highest journalistic standards to provide news and information in high-quality print and online formats that comply with standards of fairness, accuracy and objectivity.
Q. What time of the month will the magazine come out and how do I get a copy?
A. The magazine will be printed the first Friday of each month and then will be posted online. It will complement the daily and breaking news focus of online Boeing News Now. The high-quality printed version of the magazine will be published and distributed to employees, retirees and other stakeholders. The online version will be available on the Boeing external Web site at: http://www.boeing.com/frontiers
Q. Can I get a subscription to Frontiers?
A. Boeing provides Frontiers free to employees, retirees and select external stakeholders. To control costs, individual subscriptions are not generally available. Frontiers publishes an online version to serve customers, suppliers and others at http://boeing.com/frontiers
Q. How is Frontiers distributed?
A. Distribution varies slightly at each Boeing site, but generally, it is distributed via kiosks or bins located in work areas where there is heavy foot traffic. Frontiers is mailed to retirees who have chosen to receive it and to certain other stakeholders who do not work at Boeing. To keep costs low, Frontiers is not mailed to the homes of individual employees. For detailed information on distribution at your site, please check with your Communications focal.
Q. How do I submit a story idea or article to Frontiers?
A. Frontiers gets a lot of its story ideas from readers and encourages people to send them in by e-mail to BoeingFrontiers@ boeing.com, or by mail at Boeing Frontiers, 100 N. Riverside, MC 5003-0983, Chicago, IL 60606. However, it is best to go through your business unit's Communications focal with your story ideas. They will take stories through the proper channels and then forward them to the Frontiers editorial staff. This way, the business units can evaluate the editorial content to determine accuracy and newsworthiness. We also encourage letters to the editor as another way to get information into the magazine.
Q. I retired a couple of months ago. Why haven't I seen my name listed in the service awards published in Frontiers?
A. Frontiers does not control the names listed in the Milestones section, which includes Service Awards, Retirements and In Memoriam. Frontiers retrieves the printed lists from a central database into which Human Resources representatives enter information, such as retirement listings. If you have any questions, you may want to contact your Human Resources representative to make sure you were properly entered into the database.
Q. Why doesn't Frontiers list the deaths of retirees?
A. Unfortunately, the magazine does not have space to accommodate these numerous requests, nor does the company have the resources to track them for accuracy.
Q. I'm moving. Where do I send my change of address to continue receiving the magazine?
A. You can send it via e-mail to Boeingfrontiers@boeing.com or by mail to Boeing Frontiers, 100 N. Riverside, MC 5003-0983, Chicago, IL 60606.
Q. Wouldn't it be less expensive to go back to the old newspaper format, rather than this glossy magazine?
A. Actually, by going to the magazine format, we've saved six figures in distribution costs alone. That is largely by virtue of the magazine going out only once a month, versus bi-weekly as was done with the newspaper, Boeing News.
