Saudia Orders 28 Boeing Widebody Jets SEATTLE, June 18, 1995 -- Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) today announced an order for 23 Boeing 777-200 twinjets and five 747-400 jumbo jets, Boeing Commercial Airplane Group confirmed. Calculated in delivery year dollars, the order is valued at approximately $5.2 billion dollars. Saudia's overall re-equipment plan is estimated at $7.5 billion, also in delivery year dollars. Engine selection will be made by Saudia in the near future. Deliveries will begin in 1997. "We are extremely pleased to have received this share of the total order placed by Saudia for its fleet renewal," said Frank Shrontz, chairman and chief executive officer of The Boeing Company. "Selection of the 777 by Saudia demonstrates the strong acceptance gained by the 777 among the leading airlines of the world and reinforces the 777 penetration in the Middle-East," he added. Shrontz added that Boeing is proud to have been associated with this world- class airline during the first 50 years of its existence, and looks forward to being a partner in progress with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the next 50 years. Today's order from Saudia includes the second-largest 777 order by an individual customer since the program's launch. With this announcement, there have been 167 orders for the 777 since its launch and 1,167 for the 747. Today's announcement brings Boeing announced orders for 1995 to 138 aircraft of all types. |
