Luxair Plans for Growth with Boeing 737s

SEATTLE, Aug. 18, 1995 -- Luxair will add two new Boeing 737-500s to its fleet through an agreement with Itochu Air Lease Co. Ltd. of Japan.

Luxair will use the twinjets to serve intra-European destinations, including Frankfurt and Paris, from its Luxembourg operations hub. The airplanes will be fitted with convertible seats, accommodating 102-120 passengers in a two-class configuration. Luxair currently operates four 737s, a mixture of -400s and - 500s.

"The 737 has been an exceptional performer for Luxair, providing reliable, comfortable service to our passengers while allowing our airline to operate as efficiently as possible by taking advantage of the airplanes' interior flexibility and commonality across the 737 product family," said Luxair President Roger Sietzen.

Both new airplanes will be powered by CFM56-3C-1 engines. One airplane will be delivered today and the other next month.

Today's announcement brings announced orders for Boeing commercial jetliners to 209 for 1995.
