China Southern Takes Delivery Of Its First 777

SEATTLE, Dec. 28, 1995 -- China Southern Airlines, based in Guangzhou, People's Republic of China, received its first 777 today, the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group confirmed.

China Southern became the 11th customer to select Boeing's newest family member, and the first in China to select the 777. The twinjet has gained tremendous market acceptance in Asia, based primarily on the twinjet's interior comfort, and the airplane's superior operating characteristics.

Market demand has sized, shaped and launched the 777, which is the newest member of the Boeing family. The airplane design offers features, innovations and approaches to aircraft development that set the standard for delivering value to airlines.

The 777 responds to market needs and customer preferences. The result is an airplane offering cabin spaciousness and flexibility found in no other jetliner and many features to enhance reliability and productivity -- all with lower operating costs. The 777 provides the most payload and range capability and growth potential in the medium-size aircraft category.

China Southern is among a premier group of Asian airlines in selecting the 777. Other Asian carriers who will operate the airplane includes: All Nippon Airways, Thai Airways, Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Japan Air System, Korean Air Lines, and Singapore Airlines.

To date, Boeing has announced orders and commitments for 230 777s.
