ILFC Orders 18 More Boeing 777s SEATTLE, March 6, 1996 -- International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC), a unit of American International Group (AIG), has increased its future fleet of Boeing 777s by ordering an additional 18 of the world's largest and most advanced twin-engine jetliner. The Boeing Commercial Airplane Group placed the value of the order at approximately $2.8 billion, according to published list prices. Today's order includes a mix of 777-200s and -300s with ILFC to choose final quantities of each at a later date. ILFC also took options on two additional 777s. Deliveries will begin in 1999 and extend through 2004. The option aircraft, if purchased, would be delivered in 2005. Engines for the ILFC 777 airplanes will be provided by General Electric, Pratt & Whitney and Rolls Royce. This agreement brings to 24 the total number of 777s ILFC has on order. ILFC ordered six of the widebody twinjets in 1992 and will take delivery of the first of those airplanes in November 1997. "ILFC is the largest lessor of widebody aircraft and the airline demand to lease 777-200s and 777-300s has increased significantly in the past 12 months," said Steven F. Udvar-Hazy, president and CEO of ILFC. ILFC is a worldwide lessor and financier of jet transports, based in Los Angeles. A Boeing customer since 1977, ILFC has announced orders for a total of 377 new jetliners from Boeing, representing all of the Boeing models in production today (see below). "Market demand has sized, shaped and launched the 777," said Richard R. Albrecht, executive vice president, Boeing Commercial Airplane Group. "That is why the 777 has become the fastest-selling jet in the medium-size class since Boeing began offering it in October 1990. It is also why it has captured more than 80 percent of the market during that time. "The jets in the 777 family offer a combination of range, speed, interior flexibility and passenger comfort that sets the standard for delivering value to airlines," Albrecht added. The 777-200s in ILFC's order are Increased Gross Weight (IGW) versions which can carry 305 passengers in a typical three-class cabin arrangement up to 8,320 miles. The 777- 300 is the higher capacity, stretched variant which offers 20 percent more seating. Currently, worldwide orders for 777-200s and -300s total 268.
