SEATTLE, Dec. 02, 1998 -- Boeing has received a $16 million contract for seven Electronic Control Signal Programmer (ECSP) kits and seven A3 circuit cards that will be installed on U.S Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft at Tinker Air Force Base, Okla.
This is the first step in providing a more modern computing architecture for AWACS operators, allowing the use of a Windows-like environment, better maps, additional colors and symbols and an improved airborne tracker. The kits also will increase the computer system's reliability.
The contract was awarded by the Electronic Systems Center, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass.
"We are pleased to provide the U.S. Air Force with this improved capability," said Jim Singer, Boeing program manager of U.S. AWACS.
"Once installed, we expect the ECSP kits to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the AWACS system."
Production of the kits is expected to be completed by July 2000.
