Boeing Celebrates 30 Years of 747 Jumbo Jet Success
EVERETT, Wash., Sept. 30, 1998 -- Boeing employees gathered Sept. 30 at the company's assembly factory in Everett, Wash. to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the first Boeing 747 rollout. Known as the world's first jumbo jet, the 747 still is the world's largest commercial jetliner. The 747 is the best-selling twin-aisle jetliner in the industry, with nearly 1,200 delivered. Over the years, Boeing has built 15 different 747 models. The 747-400, currently the only model in production, entered commercial service in 1989 and has sold more than any other 747 version.
