SEATTLE, May 06, 1999 -- The Boeing Company today confirmed an order from EVA Airways Corporation (EVA) for three 747-400 freighters. With this order, EVA becomes the first airline in Taiwan to order the 747-400 Freighter.
Delivery of the EVA 747-400 freighters will begin in the year 2000. When delivered, the three new airplanes will join EVA Air's all-Boeing fleet comprised of three MD-11 passenger airplanes, nine MD-11 freighters - including two that will be delivered later this year, five 747-400 passenger airplanes, 10 747-400 Combis, four 767-300ERs (extended range), and four 767-200s.
"We are pleased that EVA has chosen the 747 Freighter to complement its fleet of 747 passenger and 747 Combi aircraft," said Larry Dickenson, Boeing Commercial Airplanes Group senior vice president - Asia/Pacific Sales. "These 747 freighters will help EVA capture a bigger share of the growing cargo market in Taiwan."

Known as the "Queen of the Skies," the Boeing 747 ranks as the world's largest and fastest subsonic commercial jetliner. The 747 is the best-selling twin-aisle jetliner in the industry, with 1,296 airplanes ordered - including this order. Over the years, Boeing has built 15 different 747 derivatives. The 747-400, currently the only model in production, entered commercial service in 1989 and has sold more than any other 747 version.
