Switzerland Chooses Boeing 30mm Chain Gun® Cannon

MESA, Ariz., Sept. 14, 1999 -- Switzerland will join Norway and the United States and become the third nation to field a 30mm Chain Gun® cannon produced by The Boeing Company for its Infantry Fighting Vehicle.

The Hagglunds CV9030 Infantry Fighting Vehicle, which features a 30mm Chain Gun cannon, was recently selected as the winner of the Swiss Armored Vehicle competition.

The initial order will be for 186 cannons with options for up to 120 more. Delivery is scheduled to begin in 2002 and continue until 2005. The order must be approved by the Swiss Parliament, with the contract expected to be signed in December 2000.

"This order is great news for Boeing," said Kirk Kennedy, business development manager for Ordnance." It will extend the Chain Gun cannon production line and set the stage for other countries to use this proven medium-caliber automatic weapon."

The Boeing Company in Mesa, Ariz., produces three 30mm Chain Gun cannons using the patented Chain Gun principle. The M230 is used on the AH-64D Apache Longbow; the Bushmaster II is mounted on the Norwegian CV9030 armored fighting vehicle; and the MK44 was selected by the U.S. Marine Corps for its Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle.

Switzerland is the 20th country to select a Boeing Chain Gun weapon system, which are produced in a variety of calibers.
