Defense Secretary William Cohen Receives Program Updates on Boeing Tour

Feb. 18, 1999 -- U.S. Secretary of Defense William Cohen tours the Boeing F-22 factory, where the company builds the fighter's wings and rear fuselage sections for the U.S. Air Force. Secretary Cohen stopped at Boeing during a Thursday visit to the Seattle area.

While at Boeing, Secretary Cohen was hosted by Phil Condit, Boeing chairman and chief executive officer, and Harry Stonecipher, Boeing president and chief operating officer, as well as other Boeing executives.

Secretary Cohen's tour of the Seattle-area Boeing facility included a live video link to the Boeing Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) assembly plant in Palmdale, Calif.; a JSF cockpit development demonstration; a review of the Boeing National Missile Defense program; a demonstration of advanced digital design tools being used to develop the Airborne Laser and an Airborne Warning and Control Systems (AWACS) demonstration.

Cohen traveled to Seattle on board a Boeing C-32A, a modified 757-200 for executive government transport.
