Boeing Unveils South African Airways' 737 With Production-Installed Winglets

SEATTLE, March 25, 2001 -- South African Airways' first Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 with production-installed winglets rolled out of the paint hangar in Seattle, last week. The airline will be the first carrier to operate a 737-800 with winglets installed during production. The airplane, which is leased from GATX, is expected to deliver in May 2001. Through a contract with Aviation Partners Boeing, a joint venture between Boeing and Aviation Partners, Inc., South African Airways also will retrofit blended winglets on the airline's current fleet of 737-800s.
