Common Aerospace Commodities
Deft Inc. - Irvine, CA
The primers and coatings that Deft makes for commercial and military applications, coupled with outstanding customer service, earn it high marks from The Boeing Company. Deft consistently wins Boeing contracts based on its commitment to managing for value. Deft worked with Boeing during the past year to repackage a fuselage coating primer in 450-gallon totes instead of 55-gallon drums to further reduce the per-gallon cost of the paint. This is just the latest example of Deft's efforts to improve paint processes at Boeing. In 1995, the companies worked together to switch from a solvent-base to water-base primer to reduce air pollutants. Deft was the first paint company to be awarded "Source Inspection" privileges under the Boeing D1-9000 program, and received the Boeing Q-100 award in 2000 and 2001.

Propulsion Systems
Scot Inc. - Downers Grove, IL
Scot manufactures more than 250 unique pyrotechnic and electronic devices for aerospace applications. The company supports the Delta IV rocket program and provides support to the 767, T-45, AV-8B, F-15, F/A-18, B-2 and Harpoon programs. Scot has earned respect for its innovation: An example is the way Scot tested its pneumatic actuator system for separating the stages of a Delta IV rocket. No test version of the new rocket was available, so Scot bought and filled two rail cars with cement to match the weight of the rocket stages, installed rail tracks in its factory and used the cars to test the actuator system. This testing method is still being used today on other programs.

Woman-Owned Small Business
Software House International - Somerset, NJ
The relationship between Software House International, a global procurement outsourcing company and leading business-to-business solution provider of software, hardware and personalized support services, and Boeing has been a winner for both companies. Late in 1999, SHI was awarded a three-year, $100 million Boeing contract for software order fulfillment and distribution, one of the largest contracts Boeing has ever awarded to a minority- or woman-owned business. In addition, SHI was the first supplier of general overhead (nonproduction) goods and services to be certified as a Boeing key supplier. SHI's unique distribution model, focus on customer service and aggressive pricing structure have allowed it to meet and exceed its obligations with ease.
