Propulsion
CFM International
Springdale, OH

CFM International, founded in 1974, is a 50/50 joint company between Snecma Moteurs of France and General Electric Company. Today, CFM is the world’s leading supplier of commercial aircraft engines with orders for more than 15,300 engines from 350 customers worldwide. CFM’s relationship with Boeing has been a significant factor in this overhelming success. In 1981, Boeing selected the CFM56-3 as the powerplant for its 737-300/-400/-500 series of aircraft. At the time, both companies optimistically predicted they would sell about 400 airplanes and 3,975 engines. More than 1,980 airplanes later, the CFM-3-powered 737 is a story for the record books. In 1993, this program was followed up with the CFM56-7 for the 737-600/-700/-800/-900 series, which is proving to be even more successful. For both of these programs, CFM has provided 100 percent on-time delivery over the past eight years with a quality performance rating of 98.5 percent.

Ehmke Manufacturing Company, Inc.
Philadelphia, PA

Launched 72 years ago by Philadelphia Athletics pitcher and World Series strikeout king Howard Ehmke, Ehmke Manufacturing Co. has earned some important distinctions of its own as the supplier of a wide array of technical industrial textiles. The company designs, fabricates and installs all of the acoustical blankets for the interior of the CH-47 Chinook and V-22 Osprey rotorcraft. These items are difficult to fit and install, with small tolerances. Interfaces, especially in retrofits, can vary, and the work requires meticulous attention to detail. The Ehmke team goes the extra mile for Boeing, often traveling at short notice to Amarillo, TX or Shreveport, LA, for final “shipside” fitting. Ehmke dedication has resulted in a 99.8 percent quality acceptance rating and a 98.5 percent on-time delivery rating.
