FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
97-100B
VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif., May 4, 1997 -- Today's launch of a McDonnell Douglas Delta II launch vehicle carrying five IRIDIUM® system communications satellites was scrubbed about three seconds before liftoff.
The launch conductor did not get the correct indications on one of the rocket's ground support equipment items and called off today's attempt. Currently the Delta II team is investigating the cause.
The next launch attempt is tentatively scheduled for Monday, May 5, 1997 at 7:55 a.m. PDT.
The five IRIDIUM® system satellites remain safe and ready for launch on board the Delta II rocket.
