FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
97-138
ST. LOUIS, June 19, 1997 -- McDonnell Douglas' (NYSE: MD) commercial aircraft division, Douglas Aircraft Co. of Long Beach, Calif., confirmed today that it is currently in negotiations with Central Leasing of Taiwan for the potential sale of 11 new and used twin-jet aircraft.
A letter of intent was signed earlier this month between the two companies. The new MD-90 twin-jets, which are part of the new aircraft order, would be from previously unsold 1997 and 1998 production. Final negotiations will be subject to the completion of a new joint venture, finalization of significant terms, and raising of the necessary capital. Further, the transaction is subject to McDonnell Douglas obtaining lessees for certain of the aircraft, which McDonnell Douglas has not yet been able to even identify.
