HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., June 24, 1997 -- McDonnell Douglas Space & Defense Systems has announced the appointment of Perry Cain as manager of community relations. In his new role he will represent the company in Huntington Beach and Orange County civic matters and be responsible for its local philanthropic activities.
Cain joined McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD) from Harrah’s Entertainment, Memphis, Tenn., where he was director of government relations. Prior to that, Cain served on the staff of U.S. Sen. Don Nickles (R-Okla.), where he handled the senator’s Appropriations Committee responsibilities relating to the aerospace industry.
McDonnell Douglas Vice President and General Manager Gale Schluter welcomed Cain’s addition to the company’s team. He said, "Perry’s experience and background working with the public and knowledge of the aerospace industry will enable him to represent McDonnell Douglas well in the community."
As a new resident of Orange County, Cain said he is eager to become active within the community. "I am very excited about representing one of America’s most respected companies in one of its most diverse and vibrant cities and counties.
"I look forward to being an active participant in the community on behalf of McDonnell Douglas and working to help make Huntington Beach and Orange County even better places to work and live," Cain said.
Cain received a bachelor of science degree in telecommunications from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla. He is known for his work to improve the quality of life for American Indians and has been recognized by several organizations and tribes for his efforts.
In 1991 President Bush signed into law legislation drafted by Cain that compensated Seminole Indians for lands taken from them by the federal government in the 1830s. Cain also was active on behalf of Sen. Nickles in promoting states’ rights legislation, which eventually eliminated the federally mandated 55 mph speed limit.
