MCDONNELL DOUGLAS AND GENERAL TECHNOLOGY CORP.
KICK OFF MENTOR-PROTEGE RELATIONSHIP

ST. LOUIS, July 1, 1997 -- McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD) and General Technology Corp. (GTC) celebrated the kickoff of a mentor-protege agreement June 30 at a ceremony at GTC's facilities in Albuquerque, N.M.

Executives from McDonnell Douglas, GTC and the U.S. Navy program office, together with local and federal legislators participated in a ceremony that marked the beginning of a mentor-protege relationship that will continue through December 1998.

Under the program, McDonnell Douglas will assist GTC in developing the expertise required to fabricate and test highly complex electronic equipment. GTC currently builds flight test and support equipment for the F/A-18E/F.

GTC has a history of delivering quality products on a timely basis to McDonnell Douglas. Because of this record, GTC holds a silver-level certification under McDonnell Douglas' Preferred Supplier Certification program.

The U.S. Department of Defense established the Mentor-Protege Pilot Program in 1991 to encourage major defense contractors to provide developmental assistance to enterprises that qualify as small disadvantaged businesses. McDonnell Douglas has participated in this program since its inception, and has entered into 14 agreements with small disadvantaged businesses. This agreement with GTC is sponsored by the U.S. Navy's F/A-18E/F program.

St. Louis-based McDonnell Douglas is prime contractor on the F/A-18E/F and builds the forward fuselage. Northrop Grumman is the principal subcontractor and builds the center/aft fuselage. General Electric provides the engines and Hughes supplies the radar.
