ST. LOUIS, March 21, 1997 -- Continuing its commitment to the economic growth of the St. Louis metropolitan area, the McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD) Foundation has approved a $7,500 grant to the St. Charles County Economic Development Council.
The grant, to be paid in three equal installments annually beginning in March 1997, will be used to add and update resource materials in the McDonnell Douglas Resource Room located in the Synergy Center, St. Peters, Mo.
The Resource Room was established last year, through a $25,000 donation from McDonnell Douglas, to provide the local business community and Synergy Center companies with valuable marketing and other business-related information. A wide variety of print and computer-based resource materials are available for start-up and established businesses.
With this grant, McDonnell Douglas pledges to assist the Council with updating and maintaining current business information in the Resource Room that will aid regional businesses as they venture into the next century.
The Synergy Center is a 58,000 square foot business incubator designed to foster the growth and development of new and small businesses in St. Charles County. The Center was specifically designed and constructed to provide cost-efficient space, shared services, equipment and access to a wide range of professional, technical and financial programs.
The McDonnell Douglas Foundation was established in 1947 and is funded by the corporation. It focuses primarily on education, youth, community and civic initiatives, and the environment. Last year, the Foundation contributed more than $12 million to various institutions primarily in McDonnell Douglas plant cities, including nearly $6 million to St. Louis-area programs. Approximately 6,000 St. Charles County residents are employed by McDonnell Douglas.
