MCDONNELL DOUGLAS TO LAUNCH IRIDIUM® SYSTEM
SATELLITES FOR IRIDIUM LLC
A McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD) Delta II expendable rocket will launch the first five IRIDIUM® system satellites on Friday, May 2 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. The five-second launch window opens at 8:12:15 a.m. PDT.
MEDIA CREDENTIALS AND ACCESS
Those media wishing to cover the launch from the press site should fax a letter on affiliation letterhead to the Vandenberg Air Force Base Public Affairs Office, fax (805) 734-8232, ext. 6-8303; phone (805) 734-8232, ext. 6-3595. The letter should include your name, affiliation and contact phone number.
If you are not a U.S. citizen and you wish to cover the launch, please contact the Air Force Public Affairs Office at Vandenberg for additional requirements.
LAUNCH DAY
Media wishing to cover the launch are asked to meet May 2 at the Visitor Control station at the main gate of Vandenberg Air Force Base at 7:20 a.m. PDT to caravan to the press site.
POST-LAUNCH MEDIA BRIEFING
There will be a post-launch media briefing two hours after liftoff at the Spaceport Inn, 3955 Apollo Way, Lompoc, Calif.
Media not attending the launch can participate via a teleconference at 10:15 a.m. PDT. A reservation must be made in advance by calling American Teleconferencing at (800) 289-0579 and reference the Iridium post-launch press conference. The dial-in number the day of the launch is (800) 967-7140 reference number 332901.
Representatives from McDonnell Douglas, Motorola and Iridium will be present at the press conference.
SATELLITE COORDINATES FOR IRIDIUM LAUNCH
Satellite coordinates for the launch will be SBS-6 transponder 9 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. PDT.
