Mathematics and Computing Technology

A unit of Boeing Phantom Works, Mathematics and Computing Technology (M&CT) is a center of excellence for applied mathematics and advanced information technology. The M&CT team comprises more than 300 world-renowned scientists who are subject matter experts in computing systems technology, intelligent information systems, and mathematics and engineering analysis.

M&CT focuses on research and development programs applied to Boeing business needs and government research initiatives. The group's services span the lifecycle from advanced technology development through product support, providing quality-enhancing and risk-reducing tools throughout design, development and operations.

In its 30-year heritage, M&CT has produced revolutionary capabilities ranging from FlyThru®, the digital modeling software that enabled Boeing designers to visualize the 777 airplane on a computer monitor, to simulation tools for emerging manufacturing processes such as friction stir welding applied to the Delta IV rocket. M&CT has created computational tools to help design and manufacture the 787 airplane, while assisting the war fighters of tomorrow via the Future Combat Systems program for the U.S. Army.

M&CT provides innovative solutions to address a number of unique Boeing requirements, such as network-centric operations, large-scale data and text mining, mobile communications, and distributed collaborative design teams. The group consistently transitions technology valued at many times its investment funding.

As part of its technology acquisition strategy, M&CT develops research relationships with key universities, laboratories, and industrial partners. They also support external customers, including DARPA, the Office of Naval Research, Pacific Northwest National Labs, and SRI International and provide commercial software and mathematics services to customers around the world.
