702X: The more cost-effective software defined satellite

Boeing’s heritage of flexible digital payload innovations continues with the 702X. This family of software-defined satellites was introduced in 2019 to deliver greater capabilities to customers and their end users. The 702X meets customers’ demands for smaller, more quickly built satellites that provide increased capability, flexibility, performance and improved long-term profitability. Based upon our pioneering MEO effort for O3b, the 702X combines Boeing’s most advanced digital payload with transformational manufacturing technologies and innovative resource management techniques. With these satellites, operators can reprogram payloads from the ground and reallocate resources on the fly. Boeing’s 702X portfolio is ready today with less risk, thanks to specification and configuration options that allow operators to adapt to changing business or mission plans even during the manufacturing process.

O3b mPOWER: Broadband for Billions

Boeing is building seven medium-Earth orbit (MEO) 702X satellites for SES of Luxembourg. These state-of-the-art satellites will deliver advanced data services and serve as the second-generation replenishments for the existing O3b MEO fleet. O3b is the first and only global satellite service provider capable of transporting network traffic to virtually any location with comparable latency to fiber. O3b’s next-generation satellite constellation will reach consumers, businesses and other organizations in more than 180 countries across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific. Equipped with breakthrough 702X payload electronics, the new satellites will be the most powerful, flexible and scalable commercial satellites ever built.
