Airborne Laser is Subject of TV Documentary

Col. Michael Booen, director of the Airborne Laser program office here is interviewed by the British production crew Windfall Films. Filmed this summer, the Airborne Laser and its predecessor, the Airborne Laser Laboratory, are the primary subjects in a one-hour documentary being shown in Great Britain this month. It is then slated to air in the United States on October 5th over the Learning Channel. One of the Air Force's top-priority programs, the Airborne Laser involves a Boeing 747 freighter aircraft that carries a high-energy laser. The laser will be able to destroy theater ballistic missiles hundreds of miles away. By the year 2008, the United States Air Force expects to have a seven-plane fleet of these aircraft.
