The first Airborne Laser flying platform -- a 747-400 Freighter aircraft extensively modified to carry the sophisticated ballistic missile defense system -- sprouts its newly attached turret assembly at its tip. The aircraft is undergoing modification work at the Boeing Maintenance and Modification Center in Wichita, Kan.
