The vessels line up for link bridge operations. This telescopic bridge extends from the starboard deck of the Sea Launch Commander over to the port deck of the Odyssey Launch Platform. It enables foot traffic between the two vessels for team members to perform their work. Link Bridge operations are scheduled a few times a day for limited periods of time. The vessels are managed in their positions using a Dynamic Positioning system. Once the vessels assume launch position, with the ship nearly 4 miles from the platform, the team relies on the helicopter for transit between the vessels, as needed. The helicopter is often referred to as the "flying bridge."
